A letter from Courtney…

Dearest lovers of beauty,

I am a Creative Director & multi-disciplinary designer from New York, now residing in Charlottesville, Virginia.

My first job out of college was as a designer at a boutique advertising agency. I had just earned my degrees in Industrial Design & Illustration at Rochester Institute of Technology and spent a couple of inspired & informative years observing the ins & outs of advertising before realizing I wanted something more. When I was 23, I moved my belongings back downstate where I am originally from and settled into a little corner of Brooklyn, New York with my brother and my college besties. We were all creatives and ready to conquer the world. My girlfriend and I got retail jobs at the PUMA shop in SoHo and waited for “real” jobs to come. We had so much PUMA gear to wear to work every day - we decided to rip it all apart and re-design the clothes. Customers soon noticed our streetwear and wanted their own. PUMA noticed and had meetings with us about our ideas. The corporate interest never came to fruition, but we sold those creations to customers for quite some time. That was my first design hustle. It made me realize that anything was possible and the future felt exciting.

I spent the next 20 plus years of my career honing my skills in all aspects of design; furniture, interiors, branding & graphic design. I was the Creative Director at John Houshmand, where, together, we designed high-end furniture for the elite. I spent many years working with teams of talented consultants, architects and designers to design, build, and brand restaurants, bars, and lounges. I became Design Director at Neuehouse where a pool of brilliant minds defined what prestige is in the space of co-working and creative cultivation.

At Studio Cadette, we have developed a passion for helping brands that require in-house creative, but prefer the structure of an external team. We deeply admire the tenacity of entrepreneurs and small business owners and enjoy the process of listening to an individual’s needs and responding with thoughtful, relevant, and unique solutions regardless of budget. We are capable of building brands from the ground up or distilling a brands current status in order to elevate it to its highest potential. At the heart, we are problem solvers with inherent needs to create beautiful environments, visuals, and objects.
